Calistoga, CA - August 24, 2017…When it comes to history & prestige, few tracks on the West Coast offer more than Calistoga Speedway and on September 15th and 16th the famed venue will play host to the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series for the first time in over two-years.

“We’re really excited for the upcoming Wine Country Outlaw Showdown,” said Chris Morgan of Motorsports Ventures. “The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series has had a long history at the Calistoga Speedway and with the new date I think September 15 and 16 is going to be one of the best we’ve seen. The top Winged Sprint Car drivers in the country competing at the world’s most beautiful dirt track will certainly make for a great weekend. It’s your only chance to catch the Greatest Show on Dirt at Calistoga this year so be sure and make plans to join us.”

Last year’s scheduled event during the month of April fell victim to rain, something that had plagued the early season date over the last six-years. It was then decided to move the 2017 event to September in hopes to rid the issue and return World of Outlaws weekend at Calistoga to its former glory, which had been seen throughout the 90’s and much of the 2000’s. The Wine Country Outlaw Showdown also falls just after the annual Louie Vermeil Classic, creating one of the biggest and most anticipated few-week stretches in track history.

The most recent visit by the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series to Calistoga Speedway in 2015 saw Grass Valley’s Brad Sweet and Fargo, North Dakota’s Donny Schatz grab victories over the double header weekend. Both drivers also happen to rank one and two in the standings as of press time. Schatz, the eight-time series champion, is fresh off his 10th career victory at the prestigious Knoxville Nationals earlier this month.

Over the last five years Calistoga Speedway has seen a total transformation, with immense work going on at one of California’s most famous dirt ovals. In addition to the various facility upgrades that include a new catch fence all the way around the track, a booming new sound system and new scoreboards, a massive amount of work has gone into the racing surface, which is now wider and features a better degree of banking, with smoother transitions into the corners.

“The amount of work since 2013 that has gone into Calistoga Speedway has been simply amazing,” commented Morgan. “All the support that the track has received from the Abreu family, Stadelhofer Construction and their team is pretty special. With the effort they’ve put into this place it has launched it right back up there with the best dirt track facilities we have on the west coast. If you haven’t had the chance to visit Calistoga since all the work, we truly encourage you to come and check it out.”

Nine-time Calistoga Speedway winner and Napa Valley’s favorite son Rico Abreu will be one of the competitors to beat come September 15 and 16. The Rutherford resident is still searching for his World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series victory at the track, which he’ll attempt to check off in September. Abreu’s wins have been very diversified at the speedway, coming in winged sprints, wingless sprints and midgets.

“It would really mean a lot to win a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series race at my home track,” Abreu said. “Calistoga Speedway has become such a fun place to race at with all the work that has gone on. The racing the last few years has been outstanding and we can’t wait to get there in September. Winning an Outlaw feature there has certainly been something that’s been on my bucket list. I always have a lot of friends & family there as well so I hope to put on a good show for them.”

The IMCA All Star Modified Tour will also be a part of the weekend and will showcase the top modified drivers from around Northern California.

The town of Calistoga offers more than simply just racing with world class dining and tourist shops just a short walk downtown. Camping is also available during the weekend and can be reserved at (707) 942-5221.

The main gate for spectators will open at 3pm each day, with will Call & the ticket Window opening at noon both days. The pit gate will open at 1pm. Two-night weekend tickets and single night tickets are available by visiting

The Calistoga Speedway is located on the scenic Napa County Fairgrounds in Calistoga, California at 1435 North Oak Street and has been in existence since 1937. For more information on the half-mile log onto <>
